To: President Barack Obama
November 24, 2009
This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.
Dear President Obama,
My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert. I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WWII retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate. Now I live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor, allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.
One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.
So here goes.
I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish. I can't figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends & enemies despicable lies like:
" We're no longer a Christian nation"
" America is arrogant"
Your wife even announced to the world, " America is mean-spirited. "
Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.
I'd say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.
After 9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her ideals." Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British?
Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom. I don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.
Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man. Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don't, I'll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue.
You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.
And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more.
You mean you don't want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts, who was putting up a fight?
You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.
One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you're the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job.
When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you're not in this fight to win, then get out.
The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking of.
You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president. You're not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That's not our greatest threat. Losing the
heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.
And I sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.
Sincerely,
Harold B. Estes

IT’S ALL SMOKE AND MIRRORS!
Do any of you really believe that if these health care proposals are passed in the Congress and signed by the President, that we will not add trillions of dollars to the deficit, and that health care will be improved for the average citizen? If you don’t believe it, then you should be taking a crash course in Economics 101? Well, that’s what the politicians (Democrats) who are pushing ObamaCare (it really should be called Pelosi-Reid Care) are trying to have us believe. Are we that stupid? Any high school student (at least a high school student with brains, like 20 or more years ago) can tell you that you can’t spend over a trillion dollars a year and 10 trillion dollars over 10 years and not raise the deficit. And in addition, not ration health care to all sectors of the population, especially its senior citizens. They both go hand in hand. It is all “smoke and mirrors” on the part of the Democrat majority to try to appease their “loony left” liberal base and to fulfill an
“unfulfillable” campaign pledge.
If you are against “ObamaCare”, you are labeled as a heartless and uncaring person because you don’t agree with the Democrat form of health care. How can you shove something, as big as a government takeover of 1/6 of our economy, down people’s throats because you won the last election? Yes, elections do have consequences, but over 60 million voters didn’t vote for Obama. Should their voices not be heard because of the election of Obama? These pieces of health care “monstrosities”, which are being debated in the Congress now, are being proposed without any input, at all, from the Republican side. Every time the Republicans tried to offer an alternative, they were voted down and the process was then continued under closed Democrat doors. Is this the transparency that Obama talked about during the campaign? Is he a uniter not a divider?
How do you figure that these cabals of Democrat lawyers (practically all the movers and shakers of these proposals are lawyers) know anything about health care, except maybe how sue a doctor for malpractice? On the Republican side we have about 5 Senators who are medical doctors. Were their input requested in the drafting of these budget-busting health care proposals? Of course, they were not lawyers like Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Hoyer, Schumer etc. etc. What do they know?
You will see a backlash in 2010 like you’ve never seen before, even greater than the off-year election of 1994. All those Tea Party and Town Hall protesters weren’t out there by the hundreds of thousands because they were “told” to be there, they were out in force because they realized they were being bamboozled by the far-left “Loony Tunes” crowd of pseudo - Marxist “snake oil salesmen”. We must, peacefully, show our angst by voting out of office, both Congressmen and Senators, who have put their own political party and their job security ahead of those they supposedly represent, who are you and I the taxpaying public.
We all want and need health care reform, but we don’t want or need “bad” health care reform. Just by calling something “reform” doesn’t make it “reform”. So let’s get rid of the “smoke and mirrors” and get serious by offering a bi-partisan piece of legislation that we all can agree on and not have something shoved down our throats like what is happening now. If that happens, mark my words, the voters will shove it up their butt in 2010. Now go out and do the right thing!

An open letter to my Senators & Congressman
It amazes me that you haven't suffered middle finger fatigue for the many times you have given us the bird.
I have to keep reminding you, you are in my employ and not my boss!
I hired you to represent my interests not yours!
You seem to have forgotten your job description. It isn't going on phony fact finding jaunts overseas, living high and spending most of your time fund raising for your party and re-election. It's not following an administration with an apologetic president, sub servant to countries wishing to weaken our status and influence among nations, denigrating and subordinating his office by bowing low before heads of lesser states.
Your job is to keep America on top, and figure how to improve the lot of the less fortunate by not transferring the toils of others into their pocketbooks, or bankrupt the country, but to provide opportunity for them to earn it.
Your Vegas style method of throwing our tax money at every problem is a crap shoot and never solved anything. A drunken sailor spends his own money, but you squander our money to bribe the gullible with unnecessary projects benefiting no one but your ego and legacy with your name carved in stone, or etched in bronze plaques. In the old days, debtors were put in jail, and you have shamelessly put us all in debt.
When are you going to uphold the constitution you swore to when you first took office?
In reviewing your performance, I find it unsatisfactory, and if things don't change by November 2, 2010, I'm gonna have to terminate you.

Taxes on Reid's Insurance Bill
If you like to pay taxes, you will love the new health "reform" bill being pushed by Senate Leader Harry Reid. Just take a look at the document prepared by Americans for Tax Reform. Click here http://www.atr.org/userfiles/111809pr-comptaxreid%282%29.pdf
If you don't want to have medical insurance below is the penalty you will face. I just wonder under the Constitution how you can force a person to buy medical insurance if he or she does not want it.
Other tax savings result from taxpayers no longer being allowed to use Flexible Savings Accounts to pay for non-prescription medications such as aspirin, Tylenol, etc.
Other hidden taxes are placed on drug companies, medical device manufacturers, and health insurance companies. In other words, Reid thinks total costs will go down despite the fact that he is trying to impose taxes on those who provide or insure health care. I guess Reid also believes in Santa Claus and thinks these companies will pay these taxes without passing them on to the consumers.
Also, the ability to take itemized medical deductions would be increased to that in excess of 10% of adjusted gross income.
There is also a 5% tax on elective cosmetic surgery. I wonder how the Botox Queen, Nancy Pelosi, will react to that.
Reid claims that the bill would reduce the federal deficit but to accomplish this we would have all of the above taxes go into effect - plus there would have to be a 23% reduction in fees paid to doctors and medical care - something that has never happened in the past.

CLASS WARFARE – OBAMA STYLE!
Instead of trying to make the poor, rich, we’re hell-bent on trying to make the rich, poor. Obama has stated publicly that he “wants to spread the wealth around”. That’s right out of the Karl Marx playbook. If the Obama Administration gets to “transform” our society and economic system, under those precepts, we will be on the road to social and economic ruin. The signs are all around us, the government is taking over the banks and other financial institutions, they have gotten an ownership stake in two of our largest auto companies, and it is trying to take over 1/6 of our economy by instituting government-run health care, and, in addition, they are trying to stifle dissent by trashing and belittling Fox News, and by talking of re-instituting the “Fairness Doctrine”, which is a direct assault on the First Amendment of the Constitution.
What makes everything so confusing is that Obama says all the right things in his eloquent, tele-prompter delivered speeches, but it is in his actions that contradict what he says. He sends mixed messages to the people – telling them what they want to hear, but surreptitiously doing the opposite behind closed doors and our backs.
Why wouldn’t or couldn’t he make the life and death decision to deploy additional troops in Afghanistan, like his hand-picked 4-Star general advised, in a reasonable time frame? He seems to have a mental block when it comes to making important decisions. This trait goes back to the time he was a legislator when he voted “present” over 130 times. Whether that was done for political reasons doesn’t matter, by procrastinating and equivocating when he faces important decisions, that is not the mark of a dynamic, forceful leader. He is in over his head and he doesn’t realize it because of his inflated ego, and he is caught up in the trappings of the office of the president and not its responsibilities.
Slowly but surely you see many of his early supporters getting an advanced case of “buyer’s remorse”, but it may be too late to reverse the damage that his policies might or will cause to undermine the principles that has made the United States the pre-eminent country of the world.
Look at the gaggle of radical people that he has surrounded himself with. From Van Jones to Anita Dunn to Cass Sunstein to Mark Lloyd to Kevin Jennings to Carol Browner, and his flunkeys from Chicago like Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod, Valerie Jarrett etal. Some are admitted communists and socialists and some are just Chicago-style politicians. Whatever they are called, it is scary, to say the least. When others criticize him or members of his administration, they immediately become eligible to be included on his “enemies list” and the vitriol that that designation will entail. All this is done with a smile and speeches full of empty platitudes of what a great country we have. Many people can’t see these telltale signs of oppressive behavior, because of their liberal ideology that blinds them to the facts. The word “racist” is thrown about by his most ardent supporters in describing his detractors. It is not the color of his skin that is the problem; it is how “thin” it is.
If we can’t overcome this “class warfare” maneuver on the part of the Obama Administration, we will be susceptible to becoming a third world country without us even realizing it. Beware of wolves dressed up in sheep’s clothing.

Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, who lived under Soviet Communism, said the following:
"Communism and environmentalism
- we are talking about two ideologies that are structurally very similar. They are against individual freedom. They are in favor of masterminding of our fates. They are both very similar in telling us what to do, how to live, how to behave, what to eat, how to travel, what we can do and what we cannot do. There is a high similarity in this respect".
He should have some knowledge of this matter as he lived under Communist rule for many, many years.

ARE WE STUCK ON STUPID, OR WHAT?
Are we stuck on stupid, or what? The Attorney General, with the acquiescence of President Obama, has decided to try captured “illegal combatants” who were responsible for the devastation of 9/11, in our courts with all the legal protections that our judicial system offers. They will be tried in front of a jury of their “peers”, which might mean that sympathetic Muslims might be part of the jury hearing the evidence.
Is this the way we should proceed or are we giving these “evil” killers a platform to proselytize their religious and political beliefs? This ignominious decision on the part of the Obama Administration, to try these “terrorists” in our courts, maybe should be held in the Bronx Zoo instead of the Federal Court House in New York, as that is what this decision will inadvertently be encouraging by taking the prosecution out of the hands of a military tribunal. Why do we always seem to grasp defeat out of the jaws of victory by doing stupid things under the vague guise of being “fair” to our sworn enemies? Mark my words, this “show trial” will be a circus as defense lawyers will be using all the legal safeguards that our citizens are entitled to and apply them to these international terrorists (illegal combatants). Giving them Miranda rights, following the rules of evidence of how we prosecute ordinary criminals, and, as mentioned before, they will be tried before a jury of their “peers”. Does that mean that the jury pool must have a Muslim or Muslims as part of the jury panel? Remember, under our legal system, in a criminal trial, all jurors must agree on a verdict of guilt. All that is needed for a mistrial is one vote of “not guilty” to thwart the process of gaining a conviction, and in this case, giving the victims of 9/11, deserved justice. That is a real possibility when we bring this prosecution to our court system instead of trying them before a proper military tribunal.
When our present Administration refuses to use the term “terrorist” when describing members of a group of people hell-bent on killing us and anyone they consider an infidel, you know that the insidious term
“political correctness” has raised its ugly head again. What purpose, other than for political considerations, was behind this “stupid” decision? What kind of secret evidence will be exposed to the world and other terrorists during this show trial? Will our tactics in interrogation of these suspects (who have already admitted guilt) be used to discredit us in the eyes of our enemies? You and I know that we will be put in the worst possible light by the defense lawyers and the organizations that support Muslim organizations around the country and around the world. We will be made out to be the criminals and the real criminals (the terrorists) will be put forth as the victims.
I ask the question again, are we stuck on stupid, or what? The answer seems to be a resounding “yes” and heaven help us in overcoming this absurdity on the part of our elected and appointed officials. Shame on them!

“Tragedy at Ft Hood”
Written by Allen West
This past Thursday 13 American Soldiers were killed and another 30 wounded at a horrific mass shooting at US Army installation, Ft Hood Texas. As I watched in horror and then anger I recalled my two years of final service in the Army as a Battalion Commander at Ft Hood, 2002-2004.
My wife and two daughters were stunned at the incident having lived on the post in family housing.
A military installation, whether it is Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, or Coast Guard, is supposed to be a safe sanctuary for our Warriors and their families. It is intended to provide a home whereby our “Band of Brothers and Sisters” can find solace and bond beyond just the foxhole but as family units.
A military installation is supposed to be a place where our Warriors train for war, to serve and protect our Nation.
On Thursday, 5 November 2009 Ft Hood became a part of the battlefield in the war against Islamic totalitarianism and state sponsored terrorism.
There may be those who feel threatened by my words and would even recommend they not be uttered. To those individuals I say step aside because now is not the time for cowardice. Our Country has become so paralyzed by political correctness that we have allowed a vile and determined enemy to breach what should be the safest place in America, an Army post.
We have become so politically correct that our media is more concerned about the stress of the shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan. The misplaced benevolence intending to portray him as a victim is despicable. The fact that there are some who have now created an entire new classification called; “pre-virtual vicarious Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)” is unconscionable.
This is not a “man caused disaster”. It is what it is, an Islamic jihadist attack.
We have seen this before in 2003 when a SGT Hasan of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) threw hand grenades and opened fire into his Commanding Officer’s tent in Kuwait. We have seen the foiled attempt of Albanian Muslims who sought to attack Ft Dix, NJ. Recently we saw a young convert to Islam named Carlos Bledsoe travel to Yemen, receive terrorist training, and return to gun down two US Soldiers at a Little Rock, Arkansas Army recruiting station. We thwarted another Islamic terrorist plot in North Carolina which had US Marine Corps Base, Quantico as a target.
What have we done with all these prevalent trends? Nothing.
What we see are recalcitrant leaders who are refusing to confront the issue, Islamic terrorist infiltration into America, and possibly further into our Armed Services. Instead we have a multiculturalism and diversity syndrome on steroids.
Major Hasan should have never been transferred to Ft Hood, matter of fact he should have been Chaptered from the Army. His previous statements, poor evaluation reports, and the fact that the FBI had him under investigation for jihadist website posting should have been proof positive.
However, what we have is a typical liberal approach to find a victim, not the 13 and 30 Soldiers and Civilian, but rather the poor shooter. A shooter who we are told was a great American, who loved the Army and serving his Nation and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) stating that his actions had nothing to do with religious belief.
We know that Major Hasan deliberately planned this episode; he did give away his possessions. He stood atop a table in the confined space of the Soldier Readiness Center shouting “Allahu Akhbar”, same chant as the 9-11 terrorists and those we fight against overseas in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters of operation.
No one in leadership seems willing to sound the alarm for the American people; they are therefore complicit in any future attacks. Our Congress should suspend the insidious action to vote on a preposterous and unconstitutional healthcare bill and resolve the issue of “protecting the American people”.
The recent incidents in Dearborn Michigan, Boston Massachusetts, Dallas Texas, and Chicago Illinois should bear witness to the fact that we have an Islamic terrorism issue in America. And don’t have CAIR call me and try to issue a vanilla press statement; they are an illegitimate terrorist associated organization which should be disbanded.
We have Saudi Arabia funding close to 80% of the mosques in the United States, one right here in South Florida, Pompano Beach. Are we building churches and synagogues in Saudi Arabia? Are “Kaffirs” and “Infidels” allowed travel to Mecca?
So much for peaceful coexistence.
Saudi Arabia is sponsoring radical Imams who enter into our prisons and convert young men into a virulent Wahabbist ideology….one resulting in four individuals wanting to destroy synagogues in New York with plastic explosives. Thank God the explosives were dummy. They are sponsoring textbooks which present Islamic centric revisionist history in our schools.
We must recognize that there is an urgent need to separate the theo-political radical Islamic ideology out of our American society. We must begin to demand surveillance of suspected Imams and mosques that are spreading hate and preaching the overthrow of our Constitutional Republic……that speech is not protected under First Amendment, it is sedition and if done by an American treason.
There should not be some 30 Islamic terrorist training camps in America that has nothing to do with First Amendment, Freedom of Religion. The Saudis are not our friends and any American political figure who believes such is delusional.
When tolerance becomes a one way street it certainly leads to cultural suicide. We are on that street. Liberals cannot be trusted to defend our Republic, because their sympathies obviously lie with their perceived victim, Major Nidal Malik Hasan.
I make no apologies for these words, and anyone angered by them, please, go to Ft Hood and look into the eyes of the real victims. The tragedy at Ft Hood Texas did not have to happen. Consider now the feelings of those there and on every military installation in the world. Consider the feelings of the Warriors deployed into combat zones who now are concerned that their loved ones at home are in a combat zone.
Ft Hood suffered an Islamic jihadist attack, stop the denial, and realize a simple point.

Redistribution of Health – “Obamacare”
We all know that President Obama is in favor of “Redistribution of Wealth” (what Karl Marx preached) because he told us so with his conversation with “Joe the Plumber” during the Presidential campaign of 2008, but from reading the Democrats health care plans and listening to Obama speak, it seems he’s also in favor of “Redistribution of Health”.
In a recent poll, 85% of the people were satisfied with their health care. So what’s the problem? Can’t we devise some remedy for the 15% who want or need health insurance without throwing out our whole health care system, which is considered by most everyone, the best in the world? Yes, in some cases it’s too expensive and causes some people to get into financial difficulty in accessing it, so why don’t we try to fix that problem instead of scrapping the whole health care system? The old expression of “don’t throw out the baby with the bath water” certainly applies in this case.
There are some people on the left who claim that health care is a “right”. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say we must give someone or anyone health care. It should be somewhat of a priority, but giving it the status of a “right” is just a little too much. If health care (or insurance) are a “right”, what about food, shelter, and clothing? Aren’t they just as important, if not more so than health care?
Why should anyone be forced to buy health insurance under penalty of law? It would be beneficial if everyone had some type of affordable health insurance to guard against a health crisis, but shouldn’t that decision be left to the individual to decide, not the government? Of course, so tell that to Obama and the Democrats who are hell-bent on trying to shove government-run health care down our throats, whether we want it or not.
The young people today are the one’s who will get the “shaft” if the
“Obamacare” proposal(s) pass the Congress. They will be forced to pay higher premiums to “redistribute” the risk of health care for everyone. The one’s that use health care the most, seniors over the age of 55, use about 80% of all health care costs that we expend each year. Young people do get sick and injured and need health services, but compared to the seniors their costs are a fraction of the total costs of health care.
I think forcing people to buy health insurance when they don’t want to, is un-American and it might even be illegal or un-Constitutional. According to an article that appeared in the Wall Street Journal;
“President Obama proposes to require insurers to sell policies to everyone no matter what their health status. By itself this requirement, called “guaranteed issue” would just mean that insurers would charge predictably sick people the extremely high premiums that reflect their future expected costs. But, if Congress adds another requirement, called “community rating”, insurers’ ability to charge higher premiums for higher risks will be sharply limited”. That would mean that a healthy 25 year old and a 55 year old with cancer would pay nearly the same premium for a health policy. Is that fair and equitable?
Do you think that the healthier, poorer 25 year old should be forced to subsidize an older, sicker, higher income earner? To me, that would be “Redistribution of Health”, and it will be “the straw that breaks the camel’s back”, as it discriminates against younger people who need less health insurance coverage than do people over the age of 55.
If, we the people, let Obama and the Democrats “transform” our entire health care system (that accounts for about 1/6 of our economy) we’ll have nobody to blame but ourselves. Talk about “killing the goose that lays the golden eggs”, that’s it, soft or hard boiled.
Write you’re elected representatives today and tell them “NO” to government-run healthcare, and tell them to cleanup the fiscal mess of Medicare and Medicaid so that the safety net for our retired senior citizens can be maintained and can be accessed by future retirees. It’s the right thing to do!

Conservative Quote of the Day
"How many of you "true believers" and/or Obama "Kool-Aid drinkers", think that the monstrosity of a health care bill, put together by Harry "Digby O'Dell" Reid, Nancy "Botox" Pelosi, Barack "Chief Narcissist" Obama, that is almost 2,000 pages long, will not add "one dime" to our deficit and not raise taxes on everybody"? The silence of your answer is deafening!

WHO WILL BE ANOINTED IN THE 19Th C.D. OF FLORIDA?
Now that our erstwhile Congressman, Robert “Weasel” Wexler, who lives in Potomac, Maryland, is stepping down in January, who will be the person to be “anointed” to fill the seat in the 19th C.D. of Florida?
Since redistricting a few years ago, the 19th C.D. has been a Democratic stronghold with about a 2 to 1 Democrat registration. Even a “carpet-bagger” Congressman, like Robert Wexler, had little trouble winning election after election as he fit the party affiliation criteria and he represented the predominant ethnic group qualifications for the 19th C.D. His main strongholds were the retirement communities of Century Village and Kings Point who voted for the Democrat candidate by about a 9 to 1 ratio. You can’t get much higher than that unless you lived in Harlem.
Quite a few candidates have stepped up to make their intentions known that they want to run for the soon-to-be vacated seat. All the Democrat candidates, about five, meet the above mentioned criteria. Where’s the diversity the Democrats keep harping about? I believe that even if Bernie Madoff ran as a Democrat in the 19th C.D., he’d win in a landslide in those above mentioned retirement communities because that’s the way it is. The same is true with fellow Congressman Alcee Hastings who represents another
“gerrymandered” district that has a preponderance of minority voters. Even as a former impeached judge, he has no trouble winning election after election. Is that the democracy our founding fathers envisioned? I think not!
Left out of the equation, is another candidate who represents the “evil” Republican Party. His name is Ed Lynch, and he’s announced that he’s a candidate in 2010 as he was in 2008. He ran a very enthusiastic campaign in 2008, even without the financial support from the state Republican Party and he didn’t have the big “lobbyist contributed” war chest that Robert Wexler had at his disposal. Lynch did fairly well by garnering close to 30% of the vote under insurmountable odds, especially when the darling of the Democrat Party, Barack Hussein Obama, was heading up the ticket. This time (2010) there won’t be any Obama heading up the ticket so his chances (although still in the long-shot category) are greatly enhanced. Ed lynch is a candidate who is unafraid to address the opposition in trying to get his message to the electorate. He is staunchly pro-Israel (Wexler was wishy-washy on the subject but he got a pass) and he is a fiscal conservative who is against raising taxes on all tax paying Americans, including residents of the 19th C.D.
It should be interesting as to how things will turn out during the coming year. Can an upset be in the offing as President Obama’s poll numbers keep going down? Tune in next November for the conclusion of this soap opera.

The King of Pork
Watch this short Video, ABC News Reports On John Murtha's Pork Laden Airport.
What would you say if a Congressman was able to steer over $200 million from the U.S. Treasury to build an airport that has virtually no passengers? This is the Pennsylvania version of the “Bridge to Nowhere”, I kid you not!
Located outside a small Pennsylvania city, John Murtha Airport may not see many passengers, but it has seen plenty of arrivals of tax dollars from Washington, most recently economic stimulus funds (an additional $800,000 from the Obama stimulus plan). This “extremely necessary” airport offers 3 commercial flights per day. To Wash. D.C. and back to the John Murtha Airport. I guess this airport has few security and boarding problems and very little wait time to be processed by the TSA (Transportation Safety Administration). A traveler’s nirvana, if you happen to be in Johnstown, Pa.
“When the flights are arriving, there are people, other than that, it’s empty”, said Scott Voelker, Manager of the John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria County Airport. In fact, the lone rent-a-car Hertz booth is empty most of the time.
Congressman John Murtha (D-PA), is considered one of the “Kings of Pork, so named by the taxpayer watchdog groups. Murtha is right up there with the octogenarian Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV), to lay claim to that title. Age has taken its toll on ole Sen. Byrd so Rep. Murtha has gotten the title by default. Quite an accomplishment.
Most of the $200 million that has been received by the airport has come in the form of “earmarks” that are attached to bills in Congress put in by Rep. Murtha.
This is a continuation of the “Culture of Corruption” column I wrote a few weeks ago, just the name is different.
This is the same John Murtha who stated in 2006 that Marines, in the city of Haditha, Iraq, had killed civilians in “cold blood”. This statement was made before the accused Marines were tried in a military court. All have been acquitted and one of the ex-Marines has sued John Murtha in court for slander.
The “Airport to Nowhere” isn’t the only sleazy project That Rep. Murtha has had unethical dealings with. The good fortune that Johnstown has found comes at the expense of taxpayers everywhere. Defense contractors have found that if they open an office in or around Johnstown and if they hire the “right” lobbyist, they can get lucrative defense contracts. By the way, Rep. Murtha happens to be the Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Committee. Gee, I guess that’s just a coincidence?
Over the past decade, Concurrent Technologies, a defense research firm that employs 800, got hundreds of millions of dollars thanks to Rep. Murtha despite poor reviews by the Pentagon auditors. In another “fishy” deal, the National Drug Intelligence Center, now located near Johnstown, with 200 workers, got $509 million even though the White House has tried for years to shut it down as wasteful and unnecessary. What a country!
Of course, all this “pork” translates into generous campaign contributions by the very companies who are the beneficiaries of these “earmarks”. Is this a quid pro quo of a “pay-to-play” scheme on the part of Rep. Murtha? You make the call!
Where is Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and what has happened to her pledge of ending the “culture of corruption” in Washington? I guess if you believe her pledge then you’ll believe that I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you?
The “King of Pork” really has no clothes on, but then again, who cares?
