MORT's Meanderings

Opinion + News Media Madness: It ain’t business, it’s personal.

I’ve always considered that history is a record of stuff that happened yesterday and the days that preceded yesterday. And, to the degree that daily doings are reported factually and accurately, then history should be a relatively accurate reflection of the daily news.

Either my concept is terribly flawed or something is rotten in the state of today’s media.

Here is an example of my complaint: The Opinion page of today’s SunSentinel (9-25-2011) carries the latest column by regular contributor, Prof. Robert Watson. It is typical of his workin that it is full of twisted historical gobbledy-gook. This chap is entitled to his opinions but, he is not ordained with the right to re-create history to suit his pre-conceived notions in order to more easily accommodate the theme of his next, left-leaning opinionated column.

You’ll pardon my limited education that probably explains my lack of understanding about why the esteemed Lynn University keeps this cat on the payroll. In addition to all its fine buildings and excellent facilities, this institution of higher learning must have an endowment that supports a History Re-Write Chair. How else to explain a pseudo-professor who is so willing to cherry-pick history to make his points?

Second example of my complaint: I believe that the mainstream media (Don’tcha get tired of this expression? I do.) is one of the contributors if not the major factor in this era of piss-poor news coverage and organized misinformation dissemination, that keeps the American public in a constant state of Dopamine-deprivation. It is also my belief that the majority of those who majored in Journalism during the 1960s, were so schooled in leftist dogma and so influenced by the Watergate coverage of icons Woodward and Bernstein, that they have as a group, managed to corrupt, pollute and transform the business of factually reporting the news into an unrecognizable whirlpool of unintelligible puke.

If it is true that ‘those who ignore history are condemned to re-live it’, then where does this constant distortion of the facts leave us? If I had my druthers, I’d replace Billy Shakespeare’smantra - - “First, kill all the lawyers.” with, “First, kill all the leftist reporters, journalists and pseudo-historians.” Well, it might not be politically-correct but, it sure would satisfy the soul of this Conservative - - at least, momentarily.

MORT’s Meanderings

The latest bad "Dream from my Father’s Son".

My Father never really shared his dreams with me, except that he had unreasonably high expectations for my financial success as a renowned artist. He based this bold prognostication on the pencil sketches I made all over my school book covers that were frugally fashioned from brown paper lunch bags. As far as my Dad was concerned, it was a done deal. All I had to do was become famous. Right.

This current President’s recollections of the dreams he claims to have received by way of an untaxed inheritance from his Father, are chronicled in his much heralded book on the subject. My Father left me no such inheritance and so, I’ve been obliged to conjure up dreams about his legacy to me, from my own fertile imagination.

And so it is that we come to the latest bad ‘Dream from my Father’s Son’ – that would be ‘me’.

The bad dream begins with Barack Hussein Obama winning a second term. Actually, it is more of a violently horrible nightmare than merely a bad dream. And, here’s where it gets really ugly. Just think about this - - - A second term for Barf Obama, means four more years of First Lady Michelle Obama. Let that one sink in, folks.

Among other outrages, it would mean more of those egregiously expensive boondoggling trips to exotic destinations, accompanied by all manner of pseudo-relatives and certifiably genuine hangers-on plus, an entire regiment of attendants, lackies and support ‘staff’ with all their specialized equipment and luggage. Plus of course, the requirement for a separate aircraft and for luxurious accommodations upon arrival at the exotic… always exotic destinations for the Official White House First Family pets, their specially-formulated pet food and to feed it to them, their highly-trained handlers.

And it goes without saying, that the select guests who are the recipients of the best this Administration has to offer as delivered in person by the very erudite and elegant ‘Hostess with the Mostess’, will be smothered in party favors and bling souvenirs as carry-away mementos of their heady moments shared in the company of the Supreme Madame. Need we mention that these all-expense tours are paid for with money borrowed at usurious rates of interest, from our close friends and loyal allies, the Chinese? Well actually, only about 43 cents of each dollar spent is borrowed money but, why quibble?

But let it be said that being First Lady isn’t all fun and games - - y’know. When not jetting around the globe in one of the fleet of aircraft that comprise the White House -in-the-Sky and spreading universal joy by redistributing our borrowed wealth, this First Lady brings the full force of her unelected power to bear upon some of the most weighty issues of the day.

There are serious problems to face and expensive solutions to be created in order to resolve these problems. Take for example, the nagging problem of all those overweight kids (we like to refer to them as, obese) that constitute such a glaring problem in this country. And added to that, the strange and extraordinarily dangerous eating habits of so many pale-complected Americans. Lord knows these people need some knowledgeable guidance – and quickly.

As if the burden of all these ‘official’ duties were not already enough to heap onto the fashionably-bared but overly-burdened shoulders of this long-suffering spouse of the Anointed One – there is more. The poor dear is also tasked with accompanying the ruggedly-chiseled Commander-in-Chief to such mundane functions as Memorial Services for members of our military who have been killed in action against this nation’s sworn enemies. All those generals yapping, the bugler’s ‘Taps’ tapping and all those flags flapping - can really put a damper on one’s morning.

But, let’s look on the bright side - - a light lunch of giant Gulf shrimp cocktail, a medley of White House Garden-grown veggies Tempura-style, accompanied by vintage Champagne served in Baccarat crystal stemware, topped off with a thin slice of humble pie for dessert. Ah, then back to work planning the next in a continuing series of well-earned R&R’s and ‘working’ vacations in yet, another exotic destination.

Get used to it gang, just four more years to go.

Get Ready for Another Blitz?

No, not the “Blitz” that ravaged London during WW II, nor the “blitz” used in pro football, I'm referring to the “blitz” in negative political ads and rhetoric that is going to saturate the airways this coming electoral cycle.

We all know, or should know, that Barack Hussein Obama cannot run on a successful record because he has none, so what is he going to do in order to try to get re-elected? Well, the only avenue he has left is a “blitz” of negative ads that he will use to try to minimize and discredit his yet to be announced opponent in the general election. Regardless of who it is, he has organized a “get out the dirt” task force to get as much personal negative information, as he can get, to try to discredit his political foe, whether or not that information is true or false.

This is modeled after the campaign “War Room”, as set up by the Bill Clinton campaigns of 1992 and 1996. From what I've heard, this is going to be a campaign like no other in the annals of the American presidency. The Obama campaign has announced that their goal is to raise $1 billion for the re-election campaign. Since his accomplishments, during his first term are negligible, he will have to make it a personal choice between himself and whoever comes out of the Republican primary contests.

Remember, Obama got his political training in the corrupt City of Chicago where any opponent of the Democrat “machine” would be destroyed, no ifs, ands, or buts. It has been that way for decades under the two Daley mayoralties and a couple of other “machine” politicians who became mayor. Will it work on the national scene? We'll see!

This campaign technique shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, because if you have observed how Obama operates by using false facts, class warfare rhetoric, quid pro quo's to friends who supported him, and pandering to special interest groups, with the idea that the end justifies the means. That is his modus operandi.

The Obama campaign “Army” will include most all of the black organizations and pressure groups, many Hispanic groups, the gay rights groups, and of course, the well-heeled labor unions (especially the teacher's unions and the S.E.I.U.). He can also count on liberal Jewish groups, which, by the way, has shown some slippage because of Obama's stands vis a vis Israel, which many in the Jewish community think he has been less than enthusiastic about. Already, we have seen in some polls that the “Independent” vote, who mostly voted for Obama in 2008, is now down about 20 points from 2008. Some pundits have said that he can't win if he doesn't carry the ”Independent” vote.

So, since he can't run on his shoddy record, he will have to resort to a “slash and burn” type of campaigning called the “politics of personal destruction” which, I'm sure, will turn off many voters who are “on the fence”.

My advice to Republicans is to stay on the high road and not get into the gutter with Obama and the Democrats. His sorry record should be enough to make him a one-term president, and the Republicans should point that out over and over again. The “blitz” by Obama will not work this time.

Fool Me Once............!

The full quote is, “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me”. The meaning behind this saying is that you should learn from your mistakes and not allow people to take advantage of you repeatedly.

That being the case, one thing comes to mind, anybody who voted for Obama in 2008 because of his promise of “Hope and Change” and his soaring scripted rhetoric, when it was all just smoke and mirrors, fall into that category. Shame on Obama for deceiving the majority of the voters by electing him president, but if those same people vote for his “snake oil” again, shame on them. That would validate Albert Einstein's definition of insanity which was, “Doing the same thing over again and looking for a different result”.

Does party loyalty trump common sense? What else could it be if you look at what the situation is in our country today? With our economy and foreign policy in disarray , why would any sane person vote for that false prophet Barack Hussein Obama again?

To listen to the Obamamaniacs, you'd think our economy was booming and that it was just “tough luck”, beyond his control, that has slowed the Obama recovery (is this the “Summer of Recovery – Part Two?”). It is never his fault, it is always somebody or something else's fault that throws a monkey wrench into his great plans for our economy. His “great” and articulate Vice-President Joe Biden once said that this administration's main concern is a three-letter word – JOBS (isn't that a 4-letter word, oh well, that's just Joe). Instead of making a new speech on the topic of jobs, why doesn't he re-cycle his many other speeches that he has made over the past two years on the same topic of jobs. He has said he is losing sleep thinking about the subject of jobs - with his lack of success in fostering policies that would create jobs, he must be sleep deprived and in need of another vacation soon. His “Stimulus” plan has been an abject failure especially after he tried to claim that this money was going to finance “shovel ready” jobs which he later admitted wasn't shovel ready. I guess the only thing shovel ready was the shoveling of the horse manure that he created with his soaring rhetoric?

His record on job creation since his inauguration in Jan. 2009, has been abysmal – unemployment is stuck on over 9% (16% in real terms) and many businesses have gone belly-up all across the country thereby laying off many workers in the process. It seems like he and his Administration don't have a clue as to how to reverse this steady downturn. All he knows is to demonize the rich and demand that they pay their “fair share” (by raising their taxes) even though the top 10% of of income earners pay 70% of the income taxes while the bottom 47% of wage earners pay 0% income taxes. Where's the fairness? A perfect example of class warfare which is the Democrats modus operandi in solving economic problems.

So if you voted for Obama in 2008 because he sold you a bill of goods, shame on him for being duplicitous, but if you vote for him in 2012, shame on you for being stupid.

We Need More Millionaires

The far left “liberal loons” are constantly attacking successful people (a/k/a millionaires) by saying we should tax these people more than they are already taxed because the liberals claim that it is “fair” - their favorite word when they want to raise taxes.

Little do these ideological political hacks realize that the top 10% of wage earners (those earning more than $114,000 per year) pay approximately 70% of all income taxes and that approximately 48% of wage earners pay no income taxes. Talk about fairness? Shouldn't every citizen have to pay something to support our country?

Since the liberals want to punish millionaires (and billionaires) by raising their taxes to raise more government revenue (to pay for more entitlements instead of reducing the debt), maybe they should do just the opposite, lower their taxes so that the government will gain more tax revenue? What, you say? Lower their tax rates and get more revenue? Yes, and here's why. According to an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, there were 399,000 people in 2007 earning over $1 million. In 2009 (the last year statistics were available), there were 237,000 millionaires, a drop of 39%. The people earning a million and above in 2007, paid approximately $309 billion in income taxes. In 2009 they paid approximately $178 billion, a drop of 42% in revenue paid to the government. So if the revenue goes down when we lower the number of millionaires, due to policies that are promoted by the administration, wouldn't it be smart to try to have more millionaires than less millionaires? That's where the dopey economic theories of the liberals come into play, because they feel that successful people shouldn't earn a lot of money (a million or more) because it is not “fair”.

A widely known fact (except to liberals) is that rich people have the financial resources to move their money anywhere, especially to places where they will not be punished by an avaricious government who wants to “redistribute the wealth”, like the Obama administration said it wants to do. As you can see from a few of the states that raised tax rates to levels that some people found to be oppressive, the “wealthy” people moved out of those states (ex. California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts etc.) to states like Arizona, Florida, Texas, and New Hampshire to avoid those excessive state taxes. Along with their move out of those states, along went the tax revenue that those “wealthy” taxpayers paid to those states.

Another aspect of over taxing successful (wealthy) people is that they can hire accountants and lawyers who will help them find loopholes to avoid paying taxes (does G.E. come to mind as they paid 0% last year in income taxes?).

So, instead of lowering the number of millionaires, we should be instituting policies that would encourage more people to become millionaires.

MORT’s Meanderings

Dreams of my Father’s Son.

One day, I’ll write a book titled, “Dreams of my Father’s Son”.

Unlike a much-publicized fantasy ostensibly written by our first Muslim/African/Hawaiian/Indonesian/Questionably-American president, that purportedly described the dreams of his father, my book will be authentic in terms of my dreams.

One example of the content of my book is a recent day-dream in which I posed the following scenario: Suppose the next time a major news outlet got the bright idea to send a crew to Guantanamo, they found the base open, fully-operational and fully-staffed with all in proper order but, with no prisoners in sight. Not one.

When the news crew questioned the Public Affairs Officer regarding the lack of a prison population, the official response was, “When there are prisoners to guard,we stand ready to do the job.” When questioned about the whereabouts of the sizable contingent of terrorists picked up from Middle East combat situations, that were known to be ‘in residence’ at Gitmo, the PAO and later the Commandant of the Base, said they had just recently been transferred to this facility and there were no prisoners in the cell blocks when they arrived. However they repeated,“When there are prisoners to guard, we stand ready to do the job.”

The news crew was given a nice lunch in the Mess Hall, a copy of the Quoran was handed to each and they were delivered back to the airbase where their plane, parked next to a half dozen helicopters, waited to return them Stateside.

As they took off with their unused video gear, they were puzzled, frustrated and just a wee bit unnerved. Looking back at those helicopters parked on the tarmac, a thought crossed their minds simultaneously, like a lightning bolt - - Was it possible that those same helicopters had transported the entire prison population quietly and without fanfare, a few miles out into the Caribbean and then invited them to use the choppers as diving platforms?

That’s it. That was one of the dreams of my Father’s Son. I dream all the time.

Who are the “Useful Idiots”?

That term has been attributed to Lenin, but whoever coined that phrase, it does have some relevance in today's political scene. The definition of the term “Useful Idiot”; is often used as a pejorative term for those who seem to unwittingly support a malignant cause through their naive attempt to be a force for good. To me, that is the perfect definition of a liberal.

Who else but a liberal would attempt to takeover 1/6 of our economy with a health care plan (modeled after our present Medicare plan that is going broke in a few short years) and then claim that it would not cost the taxpayer one red cent? That is a “useful idiot”.

Who else but a liberal would criticize a former president for running up the nations debt (when Bush left office, the deficit stood at $450 billion, which included the 2008 financial crash) while Obama, in his 2 ½ years in office has raised the deficit four times to $1.5 trillion. That is a “useful idiot”.

Who but a liberal, would criticize a venerated four-star General prior to initiating a “surge” in Iraq by claiming it wouldn't work and was a waste of men and money, but after it turned out to be the turning point in the stabilization of Iraq, as president, he (Obama) took credit for its success. That is a “useful idiot”.

Who but a liberal would propose and institute an $800 billion “stimulus plan” to get the economy back on track and to keep the unemployment rate below 8%, but, as it turned out, it has made the economy worse and the unemployment rate is now over 9% (16% in real terms). This is a “useful idiot”.

Who but a liberal will claim that there are “57” States of America, and who would say that the people of Austria spoke Austrian (they speak German), and that he was conceived by his parents after they participated in the march in Selma, Alabama when in fact he was born (Obama) four years earlier. That is a “useful idiot”.

Who but a liberal would be given a pass by the “Lame Stream Media” about his past associations and dealings with other “useful idiots” from his hometown of Chicago including his mentor, the race-baiting Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, an admitted domestic terrorist, Father Phleger, a radical Catholic priest, convicted felon Tony Rezko, Louis Farakkahn of the Nation of Islam, Van Jones an avowed communist, racial arsonist Jesse Jackson, disgraced convicted former Governor Blago, and Rashid Kahlidi a member of militant Muslim groups etc., while they go after with a vengeance conservative women like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann for petty verbal gaffes. To me, they are “useful idiots” who are mean-spirited to boot.

So yes, you could say I'm a conservative who abhors the policies of our present president, but even I (a biased observer) couldn't make these things up to point out the hypocrisy of Obama and the Democrats (liberals). The truth is the truth an no matter how you try to spin the truth, you can't change it.

The biggest danger to our great country is that we have too many “useful idiots” in important places and positions in our government. It is not the enemy from without that we should fear, it is the enemy from within (useful idiots) that we should fear. That cleansing should happen in November 2012.

Obama and the Economy

Soon we will hear President Obama set forth his new plan to turn this economy around. No doubt, he will call for more government spending to create jobs: another stimulus package that will put us, our children, and our grandchildren in even more debt than we currently are. No doubt we will hear Obama cry that it was Bush and the evil Republicans that caused this crisis even though he has been in office for almost three years and for the first two years his party was in complete control of both houses of the legislature and his party still controls the Senate.

To Obama, Pelosi, and Reid the answer to everything seems to be more government spending. It doesn’t matter what is the question. The answer is always the same: spend more money, tax the “wealthy,” and provide even more “tax relief” to their base, i.e., the 47% of the people in this country who do not pay any income taxes. As Joe Biden has said it is your patriotic duty to pay more taxes – except if you are the 47% of the population who pay no income taxes and presumably vote Democratic.

Well the figures are in and the monster stimulus package has proven to be a failure. In August there were zero jobs created. Remember when Obama and company said he needed “only” about $580 billion dollars in stimulus and if he got his wish he would reduce unemployment to less than 8%. Well, we have yet to see even 8%.

The stimulus package - notwithstanding what the NY Times and liberal media proclaim - has been a failure. An examination of how this money has been spent is telling. Here are just a few examples:

· $233,000 to the University of California to study why Africans vote. This sum yielded seven jobs for the U.S. and a net cost of $46,600 per job.

· $1.5 million to Penn State University to study plant fossils in Argentina. This created three jobs in the U.S. at a cost of $500,000 per job.

· $1 million to Arizona universities to study how ants work. This resulted in three jobs at a cost of $300,000 per job.

· $500 million to Solyndra labeled as “shovel ready jobs” to create solar panels. This company closed, so the money $500 million created no new jobs.

· $300 million to Johnson Controls which created 150 jobs. Net cost per job: $2 million.

· $500,000 to Clark County Nevada to plant trees. This created one full-time and one part-time job. The cost per job: $250,000.

I could go on and give more illustrations. The question is why would Obama and his economic advisers waste money on projects that yield such poor results. The answer, in my opinion, is to look at the background of Obama and his economic team. Obama has never had a real job in the public sector. Most of his economic team comes from universities, non- profit think tanks, or newspapers. The result is that these individuals have never heard or do not understand the idea of return on investment. To them the purpose of the government is to spend money without considering what they get in return. A CEO of a large corporation would never spend $1 million on a project that would yield only two or three jobs – but to Obama and his economic team you spend money lavishly no matter what the result. So be prepared for economic proposals that will cost billions and produce little in return.

No doubt when Obama gives his speech the NY Times and the liberal media will gush over his programs to spend more no matter what the result. These individuals have never understood the concept of return on investment and to them the answer always is to spend more no matter what the results.

It's Not the Color of His Skin, It's How Thin it is!

Have you noticed how prickly Obama becomes when he is challenged? He doesn't like to be told that he is wrong (neither do I), but he gets outright mean and sneery against an offending person. He has a very thin skin.

This upcoming presidential campaign will be one of the dirtiest on record. Mark my words. All signs point to Obama being a one-term president - the Democrats and Obama can't handle him losing in 2012. Lies, demagoguery, personal attacks and vengeance will all be part of the Obama campaign strategy. They will go down fighting like mad, especially with all the money his campaign will have raised and the money George Soros will invest in his campaign. The “Main Stream Media” will do a CYA for Obama as they have a vested interest in having him win. Whoever the Republican candidate will be, will have to fight off this barrage of money and the the MSM's insatiable desire to see him succeed.

Most likely, the “Race Card” will be trotted out by his surrogates to attempt to stifle dissent about the Messiah (Obama). In liberal, far-left circles any criticism of Obama will be met with that dreaded word “racist”, which will be thrown out, willy-nilly, to quell dissent and to intimidate. People are very sensitive about being called a racist and will try to avoid being labeled that at all costs. It has worked for the Democrats in the past, so they'll try it out again.

All those things worked in 2008 because Obama was a fresh face and little was known about him except that he was a fine orator and talked a good ballgame. He was able to “con” the majority of people into voting for him. But, this time he will have a record to run on and defend, people then will judge whether or not they want 4 more years of his administration. They way things are going now, it would be very difficult for him to be able to talk his way away from the disastrous economic news that is all around us. And since he has been unable to quell anti-American sentiment around the world, this will be another burden for him to try to overcome.

His core constituency made of blacks, gays, union bosses, environmentalists, and far-left anarchists will vote for him no matter what. He will lose some support from some of the groups that overwhelmingly supported him in 2008. These groups will include Jews, Hispanics, rank and file union members and students in college. Those defections will be just enough to turn the election against him and cause him to lose the election.

If by chance he embraces free market principles during the campaign (he's fully capable of doing that flip-flop as opposed to his present socialist policies), and be able to turn the economy around in a positive way, and by telling the people what they want to hear, not what he really believes, he might have a chance, but I think the voters realize that he is in way over his head and is leading our country down the road to perdition (hell) and they will see through his sham rhetoric and reject him.

Remember, it's not the color of his skin that's the problem, it is how thin it is.
