Is “Obamacare” Good for the Country?

If you’ve listened to President Obama and the Democrats since 2009, you’d think that “Obamacare” was the greatest invention since sliced bread. Well, is it?

First off, ever since it has been written (and even though no legislator had read it all), and the public has been made aware of its provisions (which is over 2,700 pages long), the public seems to think it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. Today, approximately 60% of the public thinks it is not what it wants and many of those want it to be repealed. Even one of the architects of Obamacare, Sen. Max Baucus (D), thinks that it’s a “train wreck” ready to happen. His words, not mine.

In addition, many of its early supporters now seem to have second thoughts and want to be exempted from its provisions. Even many of the legislators who voted to pass “Obamacare” (only Democrats voted for it) want waivers from it’s provisions as well as for their staffs; the workers at the I.R.S. (those who will be charged with enforcing the law against the rest of us) want no part of it; some of the big unions (ex: the Teamsters and the S.E.I.U.) want waivers and want the government to subsidize their members; and many young people, those between the ages of 18 and 34 (who Obama needs badly to sign up, to make “Obamacare” work), will be hit with higher premiums to help fund the older workers who will need more medical care. Maybe Nancy Pelosi was correct when she said, “We’ll find out what’s in it (Obamacare) after we pass it”, well, it seems that the public doesn’t like what they’ve found out upon further examination of the myriad of provisions forced down their throats by the Democrat controlled Congress.

What is it that people don’t seem to like? Here’s just a few. People were told or it was suggested to them that “Obamacare” was FREE. But, health insurance is not free under the “(Un)Affordable Care Act”. Even if your income does not exceed 400% of the federal poverty level, meaning those at the top of the scale receive less subsidy than those at the bottom of the scale, but it is not FREE. Additionally, you cannot accept your employers insurance and have your spouse and children go the exchange, if your employer offers a “qualified” plan.

Many people are under the delusion that “Obamacare” is going to lower the cost of their health insurance. That is totally false, the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) estimated that individual market premiums are going to be between 27-30% higher in 2014. In addition, “Obamacare” is not good for business. Aside from the hospitals and medical providers laying off personnel, we also have examples of major companies like Kohl’s, which has cut the majority of its full-time employees to part-time (working 29 ½ hours or less) in order to fall below the new 30-hour definition of full-time employment, so it does not have to offer health insurance. Multiply that by many more companies doing the same thing.

And, contrary to what Obama and the Democrats say, they have included in the act, the “Independent Payment Advisory Board” (made up of un-elected government bureaucrats) which will make decisions about who, what, when or where a person can or cannot get treatment. That is what many opponents of the law are calling “Obama’s Death Panel”. What else would you call it?

Well, we could go on and on, but I think you get the drift that “Obamacare” if far from giving us the health care reform that we all seem to want or need. Maybe Obama and the Democrats should include the Republicans in any future changes, so that a truly, more bi-partisan law can be enacted that will benefit all the people, not just a select few of the Obama and Democratic cronies and fat-cat campaign contributors and corporations.

Therefore, our decision is that “Obamacare” is not good for America. And so the world turns!

MORT's meanderings

The  ObamaDEVIL made me do it.
After talking tough a year ago, drawing a red line in the sand and trying to make the world believe that he had a strategy and actually knew what in hell he was doing, this pretend-President was caught up in his own web of deceit.
Some lunatics in Syria used nerve gas recently, killing hundreds of people - and so, they tossed the ball right back into Obama's court, thereby, causing him the extreme embarrassment of having to 'put up or shut up'. Damn - that shouldn't  oughta have happened.  So, he opened up his big yap again, wide enough so that he could put his foot in it again, and said that he'd shoot-em-up over there in Syria land - - not to get rid of Assad as he had called for doing, a while back - but, just to let them know that we don't cotton to nobody using such an ugly weapon of war.  After all, Barack Hussein Obama, who never served in the Military - or served anything else except his own selfish interest,  but who somehow knows a thing or two about weapons of mass destruction - draws a red line when it comes to using nerve gas.  I mean, the guy has his principles - y'know.
Well the nasty stuff hit the fan and our Allies (meaning Great Britain) decided that they weren't having any part of this stupidity - Parliament said, "No, nothin' doin".   So, Obama, leading from the rear again, checked into his bible ( 'Basic Narcissism #101 ) and came up with a brilliant idea - - "Hey, let's dump this one onto the Congress - - of course, they'll never go for my idea but, I'll be able to blame them for road-blocking me, one mo' time".
Well Folks, here's my 'direct order' to all congressional Republicans - Vote against sending any of our missiles, drones or firecrackers to Syria. Let them gas each other into Islam-Jihad heaven.  But, let's keep our fleet off-shore just to let Russia, China, the Saudis and other vermin states know that we are there to protect and defend our ally, Israel and if it comes to that - to bomb the daylights out of Iran.
So, all Congressmen and women of character who proudly wear the (R) after their names, should make it a point to contact their constituents to explain their vote and to place the blame for this dangerous maneuver to set fire to the Middle East and cause Israel to disappear - directly onto the head of Barack Hussein Obama.  Every Republican worthy of the Party affiliation,  should dump a full load of blame & shame onto Obama.  He should be dumped on and dumped on until he is totally buried in blame for this mess.  Obama is the one who is directly responsible for these acts of treason. He should never be permitted to recover politically, from this travesty.
The world should know that we recognize the terrible mistake our nation made, in hiring this agent of Diablo to be our President.  We should show the world that flag that says, "Don't tread on me."

Slouching Toward Gomorrah

That phrase was the title of a book by the late, much maligned jurist, Judge Robert Bork, which he wrote in 1996. (Gomorrah was a city mentioned in the Book of Genesis that was considered a place or society marked by evil and promiscuousness).

It was quite evident in 1996 that our culture was under attack, but has since escalated today, in the year 2013. The assault on traditional values can be seen all around us in every aspect of life. Look at some of the areas of life that has seen a “coarsening” of that life, the role of marriage between a man and a woman (the traditional family), the violence and unbridled sex in our movies and in the arts, the senseless killing of innocent people “just for the hell of it”, the worsening of race relations fueled by a lack of leadership at the highest levels and by the “race merchants” (Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the NAACP), the lack of respect for authority by our youth, the uncompromising attitude on the part of our elected officials who seem to believe that “the end justifies the means” just to get elected or re-elected, the “dumbing down” of the school curriculums, and the spectacle of our sports heroes using PED’s (Performance Enhancing Drugs) to get a leg up on the non-drug using athletes and then lying about it.

Never before has our country been confronted with such blatant, disastrous attacks on our culture and in all aspects of our lives. The rhetoric being used by certain people and groups in our country has escalated in recent years to a point where truth is subjugated by falsehoods and vituperation, all cloaked under the banner of “good intentions” and “compassion”. It seems that the phrase, mentioned before, “the end justifies the means” is the rule rather than the exception in many areas in our society.

Where are our leaders? Weren’t we supposed to be in a “post racial” period in our history with the election of the first black president? It seems race relations have gotten worse rather than better. The liberal “feel good” programs of trying to help the so-called less fortunate, has created and atmosphere of more animosity, among the have’s and have not’s, rather than having a unifying influence among the various groups that make up our population. We’ve tried “social engineering” using such programs as “affirmative action”, gender and sexual orientation equality, a government takeover of our health care, the watering down of our school curriculums, the emasculation of our of our penal and judicial systems by “weak kneed” judges and spineless politicians (for example, NYC’s “stop, question, and frisk” program being shot down by a left-wing judge). All these programs were instituted with “good intentions”, but all seemed to be lacking in good old common sense. They were “doomed to succeed” because they were feel good programs that made the authors and politicians feel better about themselves, and the hell with the consequences that these programs brought about.

It has been estimated that the “War on Poverty” (instituted in 1965, with all good intentions) has cost us over $7 trillion, and still things haven’t gotten any better. In fact, many of those “feel good” policies have had a detrimental effect on our families whereby today, we have caused the breakup of many families and have encouraged the proliferation of single parent households and families. Today, the unwed mother syndrome has had the effect of 30% of white women, 50% of Hispanic women, and a whopping 73% of black women giving birth to children out of wedlock. Many of those families are destined to grow up in poverty and, in many cases, a life of crime and anti-social behavior.

These happenings have amplified Judge Bork’s admonition that we are “Slouching to Gomorrah”. Let’s hope that the powers-to-be, our clergy, politicians and community leaders, can reverse this harmful advance into degeneracy by bringing back virtue and moral responsibility as the guiding principles in our lives.

That Boob's Poop

When Barack Hussein Obama was inaugurated President, for those who
voted for him, his rhetoric was like a welcome breeze. As it happened,
it turned out that breeze was nothing but a big bag of wind from a blow-
hard.

In the last four and a half years we have listened repeatedly to the same
failed proposals, with some being erroneously claimed successes, with no
new ideas to replace those failures blamed on everyone and everything,
except himself.

The Boob in the Oval Office asks America to follow him on his path to
glory; but that glory path is proving to be the road to destruction.
Starting with the Affordable Health Care act, a.k.a. Obamacare. This
program is an autoimmune disease by its very nature, that will destroy
itself from within while destroying the medical profession. It is a
political gimmick, not a public service.

I credit the President for one spoken truth....."Trayvon Martin could have
been me 35 years ago!" Isn't that the time when he was an irresponsible
teenager, sowing his wild oats and smoking pot, among other mind altering
substances?

Before his justice department tried to railroad George Zimmerman, Obama
said if he had a son, he would look like the slain Trayvon Martin. Oh really!
Would he allow any of his daughters to date somebody like Trayvon? Would
he accept somebody like Trayvon as a son in-law, now that he knows the
truth about his background? Be sure the executive liar will be mum to
answer this last question.

Good Intentions, Bad Results!

Liberals are always touting how compassionate and caring they are (as compared to Conservatives) toward the poor and under-privileged, but their “good intentions” don’t always lead to good results. Actually, some of those “good intentions” have caused more grief than of being of assistance to the one’s they desired to help. You could say that the proverb of, “The road to hell is sometimes paved with good intentions”, applies in some cases. In other words, people, with good intentions, often mean to do well, but do bad things as a consequence of those “good intentions“. In addition, intending to do good without actually doing it, is really of no value whatsoever. As the saying goes, “talk is cheap”.

In modern times, you could say that the “road” started during the Hoover and FDR Administrations, as we were mired in a deep depression. The Hoover/FDR Administrations tried to ease the pain of its citizens by instituting various programs intended to help out the people in need. During the 1930’s, the government instituted various programs that addressed problems such as unemployment (the W.P.A.), union organizing (Wagner Act), old age and disability programs (Social Security), and some other programs, some of which are still with us today. You could say that FDR initiated versions of the “nanny state”, a major principle of Marxism/Socialism. Most of the “good intentions” were intended to be helpful and honorable, but as they evolved over time, it has caused our country great financial and personal hardship. Marxism and Socialism was somewhat popular during the 1930’s and beyond. In parts of the Democratic Party today, Socialist policies are still very popular (especially among the Congressional Black Caucus).

When LBJ (Lyndon B. Johnson) came into power, after the death of JFK, he expanded on the FDR programs by creating more government programs “intended” to help the “poor and needy”. Again, the intentions were meant to be honorable, as is the case most times, but when the government bureaucracy takes over a task, inevitably, fraud, waste, and corruption takes hold to make the program overly expensive and sometimes unresponsive to the needs of the people who the program was set up to help in the first place.

Over the past 60 years or so, we have seen a burgeoning of these government programs with dubious results. Both Social Security (FDR) and Medicare and Medicaid (LBJ) are now approaching bankruptcy due to the faulty cost and demographic projections at their inception. In addition, we provided welfare programs to many needy people, but the bureaucratic rules and regulations have caused some major social problems. Some experts have concluded that the requirements to get government assistance has caused the break up of many families, mainly black single parent families, who have a 73% out-of-wedlock birth rate caused mainly by giving more monetary assistance to unwed mothers who don’t have a husband or father at home to help care for the family. Some families have had three generations on the “government dole”. Was that the intention of the “do-gooders”?

Another “good intention” Act, the Davis-Bacon Act, which tried to prevent the exploitation of workers doing government jobs, actually became the means of “de facto” discrimination by requiring construction employers to pay “prevailing” union wages on all government construction jobs, and since many unions were “closed shop” unions (you couldn’t join unless a family member was a member), minorities and migrant workers were excluded from many jobs because they weren’t union members.

These are just a few of the many instances, too many to mention here, where the “good intentions, bad results” syndrome came into play.

So yes, you could say that the proverb, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”, is alive and well in our society today with, unfortunately, the help of Our President Barack Hussein Obama, and the leadership of the Democratic Party.
